In order to better understand CCIMCAT`s
development as an institution, we have compiled the most
significant events of our history. Likewise, we have identified
five milestones in that point to two tendencies: the first
emphasizes our initial mandate and the second stresses our works
strategy and organizational structure.
The
period between 1980 and 1985 in Bolivia was characterized by
political and economic instability, rising poverty in rural
areas, which was heightened by the drought of 1983 and
subsequent migrations to urban centers. Consequently, The
Federación Sindical Única de Trabajadores Campesinos de Tarija
(rural workers union of Tarija) was founded in addition to
several grassroots women's and local organizations. These events
were predecessors to the foundation of the "Formación de
la Mujer Campesina en el Departamento de Tarija" project
(education for the rural women of Tarija), whose goal was to
eliminate the marginalisation of rural women.
