the end of the same year, the rural women of Bolivia chose me as
their leader. During my term as the Secretary General of the
Federación Nacional de Mujeres Campesinas de Bolivia "Bartolina
Sisa" (National Federation of Bolivian Rural Women), a new
challenge arose: to create a support system for the rural women of
the department of Tarija.
"With the knowledge that women
played a secondary role in unions, political institutions and
productivity to their male counterparts. We started to analyze the
specific needs and demands of the women of Tarija and,
subsequently, recognized the necessity of strengthening the
leadership role of women in unions. Through several contacts,
including the extraordinary contributions of German co-operant
Dagmar Schumann, we received funding to train women in this field.

Trabajadores Campesinos de Tarija (Unified Federation of Rural
Union of Tarija) argued that our program threatened to divide
families and the rural movement.
obstacle, I persisted to search out other spaces where I
could increase opportunities for rural women. Slowly, with
the help of a dedicated team, we defined our objectives;
subsequently, CCIMCAT was born with the mandate of
supporting women in their processes of development."
